Danville Firefighters are making sure some children will stay warm this winter. Firefighters traveled to some Danville elementary schools Tuesday and Wednesday where they gave some brand new coats to children in need.
‘’Around 30-percent of children live in poverty and a warm coat is an essential item during Illinois winters,’’ said Brian Hogg, President of Danville Firefighters Local 429. ‘’Every child, regardless of their economic situation, deserves a brand new coat,’’ said Hogg. He says Danville Firefighters believe a brand-new coat is more than a coat, ‘’and offers a child physical and emotional warmth, confidence to socialize and succeed, and hope for a brighter future.’’
Danville Firefighters are working with Operation Warm, a national nonprofit, that manufactures brand new, high-quality coats and partners with community organizations to give them away to children in need. Founded in 1998, Operation Warm and its partners have provided more than 3-million coats to children across the United States.
Danville Firefighters are personally fitting 210 children with new coats as the winter season approaches.
