Danville City Council members heard last night (Tuesday, November 5th) from one of the property owners who is yet to settle on selling their home for a new $50-million dollar medical campus. Tammy Lopez says she has lived in her North Logan Avenue home for twenty-five years…
{‘’What I don’t understand is how and why it is possible for someone to forcibly take your land and your home – and only give you minimal cents on the dollar…}, said Lopez. She added…
{‘’I guess I should throw in the towel and call it a great day – I cannot. I guess I should take everyone’s advice and sell now and get out of Dodge. Well, I cannot. I guess I should take the advice of our new mayor and get what I can now, or lose out later – and I cannot,’’} added Lopez.
Lopez faces the possibility of an eminent domain case being started for her property. The Danville City Council last month voted unanimously in favor of using eminent domain on 3 holdouts located in the area where Carle wants to relocate its Danville medical facilities. Carle wants to relocate its facilities which are currently on North Vermilion Street and West Fairchild into a 17 acre, $50-million dollar campus. It is proposed for an area stretching from Gilbert Street on the east to Logan Avenue on the west…and from North Street north to Madison Street.
