Voters in Vigo County, Indiana have overwhelmingly said they approve plans for a casino in Terre Haute. Nearly two-thirds of the voters who cast ballots in Tuesday’s election said ‘yes’ to allowing inland casino gaming in Vigo County.
With 86 of 88 precincts tabulated Tuesday night, unofficial vote totals showed 15,145 in favor of allowing the casino to 8,729 ‘no’ votes.
Now that the referendum has been approved, companies interested in bringing a casino to Vigo County have until December 1st to submit their plans. The Indiana Gaming Commission will then consider them.
Spectacle Entertainment was earlier granted permission by the Indiana Gaming Commission to relocate a Gary casino inland. The move cleared the way for a possible Terre Haute casino. And since then, Spectacle has signed an agreement that could result in a Hard Rock Casino locating in Terre Haute.
Representatives of Haven Gaming, the company that wants to bring a casino resort to Danville, are well aware of the efforts to locate a casino in Terre Haute. But they have said the Danville casino resort will be a destination location that will attract people from across the country. Haven Gaming is awaiting a decision from the Illinois Gaming Board on whether it will approve its plans for Danville.
