A Danville City Council committee is recommending $2.5 million dollars in Motor Fuel Tax funds be set-aside to improve Williams Street between Gilbert and Logan Avenue. City Engineer Sam Cole outlined the proposal…
{‘’It would involve realignment of the off-set in the road on Williams which is at Harmon Street. We would be putting a curve in the roadway there to make that a flow-through, without a stop on Williams. And generally improving the pavement condition by doing mill and overlay where necessary – new curbs in areas that have failed, and then sidewalks and sidewalk ramps in areas where they need improved,’’ said Cole.}
Although the project would improve traffic flow from Gilbert to Logan Mayor Rickey Williams Jr. says it has nothing to do with Carle’s planned $50-million dollar development west of Gilbert….
Carle wants to close a portion of Logan Avenue (from North Street – two blocks north of Main Street – to Madison Street).
The Public Works Committee also recommended approving a $252-thousand dollar contract for professional engineering services for the Williams Street project.
And the committee recommended the city council approve a $576-thousand dollar contract to upgrade a Poland Road sanitary pump station. City Engineer Sam Cole outlined that project….
{‘’The Poland Road pump station project is a rehabilitation of the sanitary sewer pump station north of Poland Road. It serves the area really to the north of there all the way out to the north edges of town, and it is the largest pump station the city owns from a flow standpoint. So, it will be a complete rehabilitation and will really upgrade that area,’’ said Cole during an interview with VermilionCountyFirst.com News.}
The committee also recommended a $25-thousand dollar contract be approved for engineering services for improvements around the Jackson and Voorhees Street intersection. And the committee recommended setting aside money for professional services to create engineering plans for improvements along Harrison Street from Vermilion to just west of Walnut Street. Engineering plans would also be prepared for turning a parking lot at the northeast corner of Walnut and Harrison Streets into public parking. The location is near Danville’s historic Fischer Theatre.
