Leaders of Carle Health System say the proposed $70-million dollar medical campus in Danville is going to help bring new doctors to the community. Caleb Miller, Carle’s Senior Vice President of Primary Care says it will also offer other improvements….
”It’s right next to the city museum, so we’ll have a nice plaza area around it. There will be some different things that we’re going to be able to offer to the community. We are creating a building where there will be what we call a community center,” said Miller. ”So, after hours as well as on weekend we will be able to open up our doors and host community groups as needed. There’s a lot of different things that we’re going to have. There’s a lot of health and wellness aspects to it that aren’t available right now within the Danville community or at our current locations that we’re going to be able to offer here.”
Miller explains why Carle wants to consolidate its services in Danville….
”We wanted to have some additional space to enhance the services that we have. (And) also to allow us to bring new services and create really a health and wellness destination for the community,” said Miller during an interview with VermilionCountyFirst.com.
Miller says more details about the project will be revealed at tonight’s (November 19, 2019) Danville City Council meeting. If Carle is able to get the necessary approvals it needs from the city and state, Miller says the project should be open in two years.
Originally Carle was saying the estimated cost of its new Danville campus was $50-million dollars. Now that estimate has been raised to $70-million dollars.
Carle’s new campus would be located in an area that lies west of Gilbert Street to Logan Avenue, and north of North Street to Madison Street. Carle wants a segment of Logan Avenue closed so it can tie its project to Ellsworth Park. OSF Sacred Heart Medical Center is opposed to the closure.
