It looks as though people got the message about ‘The Giving Fence’ in downtown Danville. There were numerous items hanging on the fence located across the street from the David S. Palmer Arena today (Tuesday, November 19, 2019).
A sign placed on a fence invites citizens to take what they need and leave what they can. Only clean, gently-used winter coats, gloves and hats should be placed there. The Danville Chapter of Credit Unions placed the sign there to help anyone in need get through the cold weather.
Some people have even mentioned on social media that they planned to make some items to place on the fence. Items left there should be placed in plastic bags to protect them from the weather.
November is Homeless Awareness Month, and a free soup lunch is being offered from 11:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, November 20, 2019 at Crosspoint at the Y. It was formerly the YWCA along Hazel Street in downtown Danville. Anyone is invited to stop by for soup, sandwiches and desserts. There will also be free hygiene items, coats and socks available for those in need. There are no income guidelines or paperwork for this event.
