Local candidates interested in running in the March 17th Illinois Primary Election start filing their petitions on Monday (November 25, 2019). Some candidates are likely to be standing in line when the filing begins at the Vermilion County Clerk’s Office and Illinois State Board of Elections in Springfield.
Vermilion County Clerk Cathy Jenkins recently reminded candidates that all paperwork must be notarized prior to filing. If papers are not notarized you will be asked to step out of line to do so.
Offices that will be on the ballot next year include Vermilion County Auditor, Circuit Clerk, Recorder, State’s Attorney, Coroner, County Board members, and Precinct Committeemen.
Some state and federal offices will also be up for grabs next year – including the 15th District Congressional seat currently held by Representative John Shimkus. He announced earlier that he will not be seeking another term.
Candidates have until the end of business on December 2, 2019 to get their petitions filed.
