A 50-year-old Danville woman has been sentenced to 50 years in prison in connection after being convicted of murdering her wife.
Circuit Judge Nancy Fahey sentenced Shelley A. Murphy on first-degree murder charges in the death of 61-year-old Daye Lynn Murphy.
‘’As with this case, domestic violence too frequently results in fatalities, which is why my office is committed to ensuring that the perpetrators of domestic violence are held accountable,’’ said Illinois Attorney General Kwame Raoul. A Special Prosecutor from the Illinois Attorney General’s Office had handled the case.
‘’Partnerships like that between my office and the Vermilion County State’s Attorney’s Office are crucial as we help families get the justice they deserve,’’ said Attorney General Raoul.
During the prosecution evidence was presented that during a fight on July 22, 2018, at their home, Shelley Murphy struck Daye Lynn Murphy in the head, which caused bleeding in the brain and led to the victim’s death. Daye Lynn lay unconscious on the floor of their residence for three days, during which the defendant failed to seek medical attention, according to the prosecution. Emergency services were not summoned until July 25th when the defendant’s sister called 911.
‘’Domestic violence offenders are some of the most dangerous and manipulative perpetrators that live in our community and my office working with the Illinois Attorney General’s office will do everything in our power to protect victims and bring the offenders to justice,’’ said State’s Attorney Jacqueline Lacy.
