A neighborhood on Danville’s west side is about to undergo major change. Heavy equipment arrived Thursday to begin the demolition process where the new Carle At The Riverfront medical campus is going to be built.
Sam Shaffer, owner of the Pontoon Beach, Illinois demolition company hired by Carle, says it will probably be another couple of weeks before the removal of 55 vacant buildings begins in the area. Those structures are all located in an area stretching from Robinson Street on the east to just west of Logan on the west…and from North Street on the south to Madison Street on the north.
Carle expects its new $70-million dollar Danville medical campus to be completed by late next year. Carle plans to move its medical offices there which are currently located along North Vermilion Street and at Fairchild and Gilbert Street. Carle also plans to house its ambulance service at the new campus.
Shaffer told Vermilioncountyfirst.com News that Ameren must complete some work in the area before the demolition work can start.
