A local program that helps place food in student backpacks is getting a boost. During the entire month of March, Senior Source Danville and some partners will be collecting food for the ‘Food for Children Backpack Program’.
Rose Gates founded the backpack program ten years ago. She and an army of about 40 dedicated volunteers pack nearly 400 backpacks each week for area students who are at risk of going hungry. The backpacks are filled with enough food to get a child through the weekend.
‘’This is an invaluable service to our community, and we are glad to be a part of it,’’ said Toni Stone, a local State Farm agent and Business Partner to Senior Source. During March donations of non-perishable food items or cash may be dropped off at several locations to help the ‘Food for Children Backpack Program.’ Those locations include:
- Senior Source Danville at 7 East North Street in Danville
- Classic Homes Realty at 2830 N. Vermilion, Suite C in Danville
- State Farm Insurance Agent Toni Stone at 711 Oak Street in Danville
- Kruger Coan Funeral Home at 10 East Williams in Danville
- Villas of Hollybrook at 2215 N. Bowman Avenue in Danville
- Autumn Fields at 316 East 14th Street in Tilton
