A $3-million dollar gift from the Julius W. Hegeler II estate will help support and enhance oncology programs at the Bobette Steely Hegeler Cancer Care Center in Danville.
Sister Judith Ann Duvall, Chairperson of the Boards of OSF HealthCare, was on hand in Danville for the announcement…
{‘’With OSF HealthCare Sacred Heart Medical Center, Julius’ legacy – it will grow and enhance the delivery of cancer care here, now, in this community. And the gift will honor Bobette Steely Hegeler in perpetuity,’’ said Sister Duvall.}
‘’This very generous gift from the Julius W. Hegeler II Foundation exemplifies what Julius lived for,’’ said Dr. Jared Rogers, President of OSF HealthCare Sacred Heart Medical Center.
Dr. Jo-Mel Labayog, Medical Director of the Cancer Care Center in Danville, says over the years he has realized that when people leave the Center it’s not necessarily their last chemo or radiation therapy they remember….
{‘’What they remember is, when they came through that door – the people who said ‘hello’, the warm welcome they received, the smile that they got from my office staff. That gave them the sense of reassurance that this is the right place to be. That people here care about what we have for you,’’ said Dr. Labayog.}
The $3-million dollar donation is a tribute to Bobette Hegeler, the late wife of Danville businessman and philanthropist Julius W. Hegeler II. Mr. Hegeler died in July of last year at the age of 91. ‘’His legacy will live on for many decades to come in the cutting-edge care for those afflicted with cancer for whom he had such great compassion,’’ added OSF HealthCare Sacred Heart Medical Center President Jared Rogers.
