No injuries were reported today (Wednesday, March 11, 2020) when flames swept through part of a Danville apartment building. Assistant Fire Chief Todd Spicer desribed what firefighters found when they arrived on the scene on Beechwood Drive at the Green Meadows Apartments….
{”Fire units arrived on the scene and found heavy smoke and fire coming out of the front of the building. It was a 16 unit apartment, so we got in as quickly as possible to get a quick knock-down on the flames, and then kind of dispersed our crews to make sure we got the building totally evacuated,” said Spicer. ”Once we were sure that everybody was out of the building we went back and finished extinguishing the flames and hot spots.”}
For awhile firefighters were unable to locate the occupant of the apartment which burned, but then she was determined she was safe.
The American Red Cross is assisting people who were living in the 16-unit apartment building. The Red Cross is providing them temporary shelter.
The Illinois State Fire Marshal’s Office is assisting in the investigation into what caused the blaze. For now, Assistant Chief Spicer says the cause remains under investigation….
{”We did have the State Fire Marshal’s Office come in to help assist. We brought in the dog to help assist and see if anything might have contributed to the cause of the fire. And, it’s been a positive workout for us – and for the dog – and we’re waiting awaiting test results to come back. So it will be a little while before we get those results,” added Assistant Chief Spicer during an interview with VermilionCountyFirst.com News.
