Danville and Vermilion County election officials say extra precautions are being taken at polling places because of the Corona virus threat. Vermilion County Clerk Cathy Jenkins and Sandy Delhaye, Executive Director of the Danville Election Commission, say hand sanitizer and anti-bacterial wipes will be located at all polling places. In addition, voters will have access to soap and water in bathrooms.
Meanwhile, Lindsey Light, Chief Deputy Clerk in charge of elections for the county clerk’s office, says the number of early voters has risen dramatically in the past few days. Over 800 people have voted early for polling places located outside the city of Danville.
If you have not registered yet to vote, Light urges you to do so before Election Day on Tuesday. You will not be able to register at polling places outside the city on Election Day.
Light says election statutes allow voters who live outside the Danville city limits to go to the County Clerk’s office to register or change their registration on Election Day, however she expects long wait times if you wait until Election Day.
If you live inside Danville, you can register or change your voter registration information if necessary at the Danville Election Commission office. Both the County Clerk and Danville Election Commission are located at the Vermilion County Administration Building at 201 North Vermilion Street in downtown Danville. Both offices are open regular hours today (Friday, March 13, 2020), and they will also be open on Saturday from 9:00 a.m. until noon.
