The Executive Director of VA Illiana Health Care System says the nationwide COVID-19 coronavirus outbreak has local medical professionals thinking – and working – outside the box. Shawn Bransky says advancements in technology have helped…
{”We’ve extended a lot the ability of our staff to tele-work. That’s both clinical and administrative staff. So you, actually, as a Veteran may have your appointment by one of our healthcare professionals from their house,” said Bransky. ”And those are the kinds of things that we are really doing – really outside the box thinking to make sure that our staff is kept safe.”}
Bransky (shown in photo) adds with all of the concern about the virus a decision was made to restrict visitors….
{”If we have a caregiver that comes with a veteran, and they’re here to take care of the veteran – to get them to an appointment – they will absolutely be allowed into the healthcare system. But anyone that’s here – unfortunately we have some veterans that come in, and they want to socialize with other veterans – that’s very important but right night in the interest of social distancing we’ve really had to curtail that. So we’ve limited our visitors into the healthcare system,” said Bransky. ”And the other thing is for folks that are coming into the healthcare system with appointments – you’re going to be screened at the door.”} Those restrictions had been announced recently by the Veterans Administration.
Bransky also noted that if matters get worse with the COVID-19 pandemic there is a community living center with about 30 beds available at the Danville VA if needed. He says it is currently empty because the VA had made plans to renovate it.
