The Illinois State Board of Education says Remote Learning Days for the state’s public schools will begin on Tuesday. But Danville District 118 Superintendent Alicia Geddis says the local district is not looking to get any instruction done this week. Instead, she says they will be reaching out to students and staff to make sure they are alright during the on-going COVID-19 emergency….
{”The social well-being of our staff, students, parents and our community will be the priority as a part of our learning model this week,” said Dr. Geddis. ”We need to know that everyone is well,” added Superintendent Geddis on WDAN Radio’s Newsmakers program.
Geddis (shown in photo) says all Illinois public school districts – including Danville – received 62 pages of guidance that was sent out by the Illinois State Board of Education at 8:30 Friday night. It contained instructions on what districts were suppose to implement starting today. But instead she says District 118 will be reaching out to make sure students and staff are safe, healthy and getting food.
Assistant Superintendent for Elementary Education, John Hart, noted the 62-page document sent by the State Board of Education to districts Friday night ‘’wasn’t a simple read’’. He along with Superintendent Geddis and Assistant Superintendent for Secondary Education, Beth Yacobi, met on Saturday to review the state’s message. Yacobi said she is proud of the way District 118 staff members are helping during the national coronavirus emergency….
{”It is incredible what our staff has done to reassure and reach out to our students to let them know that they miss them, that they have fun learning activities while they’re at home. And, like I said, the abrupt stop of face-to-face instruction and switching over into this new world that we’re in – I can’t say enough about our staff, how they’ve reached out and tried to connect in so many ways with our students and families. And so, we appreciate that tremendously,” added Assistant Superintendent Yacobi.
‘’I think we have a great plan moving forward,’’ added Assistant Superintendent for Elementary Education John Hart. ‘’It’s definitely been challenging but I feel we have developed a really good plan.’’ More details will be announced soon.
