A Danville teenager has been sentenced to twelve years in prison for his role in a home invasion. Keshawn Stapleton, who formerly lived on Campbell Lane in Danville, was sentenced by Circuit Judge Nancy Fahey.
Stapleton will be required to serve at least half of the sentence. He was just 16 in February of last year when he and two others entered the victim’s home, according to Vermilion County State’s Attorney Jacqueline Lacy. She says Stapleton pointed a gun at the female victim and demanded money. Lacy added Stapleton took a PlayStation 4 from the vicim’s home.
Police apprehended Stapleton near the victim’s home and found a PlayStation 4 shoved down his pants.. Stapleton was also armed with a firearm.
Stapleton’s case started in juvenile court, but Lacy requested it be transferred to adult court. State’s Attorney Lacy says ‘’when permitted by law, violent juvenile offenders in Vermilion County will not be able to avoid transfer to adult court, and appropriate penalties for violent criminal acts.’’
