Five Finger Death Punch guitarist Zoltan Bathory admitted in a new interview that his band is very “polarizing.” Bathory explained, “We know that we're a very polarizing band. Our fans are hardcore. They love us, and there are a lot of people who can't stand us. But even the haters don't compare us to other bands. We stand on our own.”
Bathory added about the band's appeal, “Ivan's (Moody, singer) lyrics are always personally, politically or socially relevant. We're not singing about history or Viking warriors. Ours is a social commentary, about the hope and the tragedy, and things we all go through in life.”
Bathory also acknowledged that Five Finger Death Punch can be deliberately provocative, saying, “We like to press buttons. When everyone was on streets with signs saying 'War is not the answer!', we released (2009 LP) War Is The Answer. When Occupy Wall Street was going on and socialism was growing in America, we brought out (2011's) American Capitalist. That's all intentional.”
Bathory, who came to the U.S. from communist Hungary, told us not long ago that he's a strong proponent of the capitalist system: “I came to this country without speaking English and I didn't have anything, and here I'm sitting with you, doing this interview today. So I have the right to say, like, hey, you know, doesn't matter what circumstance you were born in, you have a shot in this system. The capitalist system will give you a fair shot.”
Five Finger Death's latest album, F8, was released on February 28th. The band's spring tour with Papa Roach, I Prevail and Ice Nine Kills has been postponed and rescheduled for the fall. The trek was originally due to run from April 8th to May 20th, but will now kick off on September 28th in Sunrise, Florida.
