Volunteers are pitching-in to make sure citizens don’t go hungry during the current COVID-19 emergency in the Danville area. Danville teachers and others from the district will be distributing food for all District 118 students at Danville High School between 10:00 a.m. and noon today (Tuesday, March 31st, 2020). And at the CRIS Healthy Aging Center in Danville, volunteers are loading donated food to deliver to the homes of senior citizens across Vermilion County. Some of those volunteers are Danville City employees.
School Superintendent Alecia Geddis says to maintain the safety of everyone it will be a non-contact distribution at Danville High School. Jackson Street will be closed to cross traffic near the high school and vehicles picking up food are asked to enter Jackson Street at Williams and head north.
Danville Police will be assisting with traffic at the high school and those picking up food are asked to remain in their vehicle.
Meanwhile, Superintendent Geddis adds the Illinois State Board of Education has authorized an extension of a pilot program with McDonald’s. The District will be mailing another card to each student. The cards will allow students to receive two pre-packaged breakfasts and two pre-packaged lunches from the three Danville McDonald’s restaurants. If you do not receive your card, it is best to confirm your address when your teacher calls you, or you can leave a message on your school’s voicemail or email your principal.
