The Illinois Department of Corrections says an employee at the Danville Correctional Center has tested positive for COVID-19 coronavirus disease. There are 40 Corrections staff members and 62 offenders statewide who have tested positive for the disease. The offenders are from a dozen Illinois Department of Corrections facilities located around the state. The employee is the only case that has been confirmed at the Danville Correctional Center
Facilities with confirmed cases of COVID-19 are placed on lockdown, which means there is no movement around the facility except for medical care. Staff who work with individuals in isolation and quarantine, as well as healthcare units, are wearing full personal protective equipment (PPE) and all staff are wearing some PPE.
The Danville Correctional Center opened in October of 1985. The latest number available shows more than 1700 inmates are housed there.
Governor J. B. Pritzker recently issued an executive order suspending all admissions to the Illinois Department of Corrections from all county jails as part of the response to COVID-19.
