Most Illinois residents who receive assistance through the state’s Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) will see increased benefits loaded on their Link cards this month. All who are eligible for additional benefits should see those benefits on their cards by April 20th. Some could see them as early as Wednesday (April 8, 2020).
The Illinois Department of Human Services announced Monday that more than 450,000 Illinois households would be getting the extra benefits. The additional funds are intended to help Illinoisans obtain food and support for their families during the COVID-19 pandemic. The maximum SNAP benefit amounts are being implemented for April and May.
The increased benefits will be automatically loaded onto SNAP recipient Link cards, and there is no need for anyone to re-apply, visit an office, or call. All new applications authorized in April will also receive the maximum allotment for their household size.
The maximum SNAP benefit for a household of one is $194.
If there are two people in the household the maximum benefit is $355.
A three person household maximum benefit is $509.
A household of four has a maximum SNAP benefit available of $646.
A household of five is eligible for a maximum $768 in benefits. And a
household consisting of six people qualifies for a maximum benefit of
$921. Households already receiving the maximum benefit will not receive additional benefits.
