The Vermilion County Health Department says the number of county residents who have tested positive for COVID-19 coronavirus has climbed to seven. County Health Department Administrator Douglas Toole reported this (Thursday) afternoon that two more positive cases have been diagnosed from the county.
One of the new cases is a Vermilion County resident in their 30s. The other is in their 60s. One is at home and the other is currently hospitalized.
And tragically, Champaign has recorded its first death from COVID-19. ”This is a somber reminder of the seriousness of this virus, and the responsibility each of us carries to help reduce exposure and to keep Champaign safe,” said Champaign Mayor Deborah Frank Feinen. The death is the second from the disease in Champaign County.
The Illinois Department of Public Health announced 1,344 new cases of of coronauvirus disease this afternoon (Thursday, April 9, 2020)…including 66 additional deaths since Wednesday. Currently the Illinois Department of Public Health is reporting a total of 16,422 positive cases of coronavirus disease, including 528 deaths in 81 of the state’s 102 counties. The ages of those involved in those cases ranges from less than one to older than 100.
