With ‘Stay at Home’ advisories still in effect due to the coronavirus pandemic – Easter Sunday church services will be much different this year. But a Georgetown woman, Gayle Jochim, still wants to hear bells on Easter….
Audio Player{‘’There’s no people in the pews. There’s churches that are streaming and Facebooking their services. It’s going to be awfully quiet and very eerie. I want to hear the church bells ringing on Easter morning, so I’m hoping to contact and have as many churches as have bells – ring their bells at 8 o’clock on Easter morning for three minutes,’’ said Jochim.}
Jochim explains where she got the idea to ask churches to ring their bells….
Audio Player{I’m sitting home recuperating from some surgery, and a lot of time to kill, and the realization that nothing is the same as it’s been. All the days are running together, and every day is like is like every other day – and Easter is not. And we still need to celebrate it,’’ said Jochim.}
So, Jochim hopes her message spreads across the country….
Audio Player{‘Lots of the new churches don’t even have bells – a couple of them have carillons. But every church that has bells – as far as I can get that message out: Ring those bells – the resurrection is here. It’s Easter!’’}
And Jochim added….
Audio Player{‘’I’d love to have every church in the city, and beyond – and as many as I can get across the country – ringing their bells to celebrate Easter. We’re still here. You can’t take that away! Ring the bells!’’}
Again, Jochim is asking the churches to ring their bells for 3 minutes, starting at 8:00 a.m. Sunday.
