Westville’s St. Mary’s Catholic Church is spreading the joy of Easter with a special outdoor display. Fr. Timothy Sauppe says the idea for the display came to him one night when he was thinking about ways to celebrate the holiday while still being mindful of the need to avoid gatherings during the national health emergency.
The display features the pastel colors of an Easter morning, along with glorious spring flowers – all centering on an unusual Lenten crucifix of the Baby Jesus on the cross, said Fr. Sauppe. He says St. Mary’s wants to remind everyone that the true meaning of Christmas leads to Good Friday and then gives way to Easter, the Resurrection of Christ Jesus!
Fr. Sauppe and the Easter Bunny will be waiving at passing cars from 9:00 until 10:30 a.m. on Easter morning from the front of St. Mary’s Church. It is located at 231 North State Street in Westville (along Illinois route one).
Fr. Sauppe adds St. Mary’s Catholic Church is encouraging everyone to say a prayer for the victims of the coronavirus pandemic, and for the medical workers, first responders, Governor and President.
And Fr. Sauppe adds everyone should also pray for an end to the virus.
‘’Christ is Risen and so shall we. Happy Easter, Hallelujah,’’ he added.
