Vermilion County Coroner Jane McFadden has released the identity of a Danville man who died after being shot early today (Monday, April 20, 2020). She says the victim is 21-year-old Caleb Cordes.
Danville Police Commander Joshua Webb says officers responded to the unit block of Columbus Street around 1:15 this morning on a report of two people being shot. When they arrived they found a 21-year-old male (later identified as Cordes) who was unresponsive and had suffered multiple gunshot wounds. A second 21-year-old man had been shot in the leg, according to Webb.
The leg wound suffered by the second man was not life-threatening according to police.
Danville Police say their preliminary investigation found the two men were together outside a residence when someone approached and started shooting at them. No suspect information is available at this time and no other injuries were reported.
