The Danville Golden ‘K’ Kiwanis Club will not be selling peanuts next month like they have done for decades. Treasurer John Barker says the club has learned the company where they purchased the peanuts has gone out of business. It closed last June and Barker says the club has been unable to find another suitable product.
Funds raised by the Danville Golden ‘K’ Kiwanis Club from the sale of the peanuts each year have supported numerous youth programs in the area. They include the Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, YMCA and the Boys and Girls Club in Danville. The money has also paid each year for three $750 scholarships to Danville Area Community College and the Lakeview School of Nursing, said Barker.
Barker noted the coronavirus pandemic may have prevented the peanuts from being sold this year anyway. He says perhaps the peanut sales will be back next year. Meanwhile, anyone who wishes to support the youth programs in the community can do so by sending a check to the following address:
Danville Golden K
209 East Conron Avenue
Danville, Illinois 61832
The Golden K Kiwanis Club will be helping with this year’s 70th Annual Kiwanis Pancake Day in October.
