Illinois health officials report 2,219 new COVID-19 cases with 144 more deaths in Tuesday’s briefing. State totals are now 48,102 cases including 2,125 deaths. The Illinois Department of Public Health reported 14,561 tests were processed over the previous 24 hours for a total 242,189.
Governor JB Pritzker continued to blast the lawsuit filed by Southern Illinois State Rep. Darren Bailey (R-Xenia), which successfully challenged the state’s stay-at-home order. Pritzker is appealing the decision. The governor called Bailey “irresponsible” and said the lawsuit was a headline-seeking move by the lawmaker. He reminded residents that the ruling only applies to Bailey and the stay-at-home order remains in effect for the state.
