Motorists traveling in Kickapoo State Park will need to use caution over the next few weeks as some major improvements continue. Workers from the Cross Construction Company have been busy improving roads and parking lots.
Julie Elliott and her husband Doug serve as hosts at the main campgrounds at Kickapoo. She describes some of the improvements….

Elliott adds it is unknown when the campgrounds will be allowed to re-open. The campgrounds, playgrounds and concession areas at Kickapoo remain closed because of the COVID-19 pandemic. But when they re-open, Elliott says Kickapoo has a lot to offer for camping….
Audio Player{We have 182 spots. We have primitive camping and we also have the power hook-ups. We have two shower houses, (and) the one stays open all winter,’’ said Elliott.}

Elliott adds some people camp during the winter months….
Audio Player{‘’We camp out here year-around. We’re open year-round. And we have the back shower house open during the winter, and we have a lot of winter campers,’’ said Elliott.}
Some of the campers who spent time at Kickapoo State Park during the winter that just concluded were from Canada, Britain and Australia.

Kickapoo State Park is located northwest of Danville. It partially re-opened on May 1st after being closed due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Visitors there can now do such activities as hiking, biking, fishing and watching wildlife – but it is still unknown when campgrounds, concession areas and playgrounds will be allowed to re-open.
