An awards ceremony hosted by the Illinois Department of Corrections in Springfield Wednesday was turned into a virtual event due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
An IDOC Honor Guard was on hand to honor employees who had sacrificed their lives in the line of duty, and those who had died from natural causes over the past year.
IDOC Director Rob Jeffreys recognized Corrections nurses and others who have been dealing with the pandemic….
{‘’They cannot be praised enough for their heroism. Rather than name an officer, an employee, or pro-agent of the year, the honor goes to all of our staff. Our staff who have rose to the challenge to respond, mitigate, and control the COVID-19 in our facilities,’’ said Director Jeffreys.}
‘’I am extremely proud of our staff who quietly work day in and day out protecting the public safety with professionalism, civility, and integrity,’’ added Director Jeffreys.
The Department replaced its typical gathering of employees, executive staff, and honor guard with a simplified, socially distanced virtual experience.
