The Illinois Gaming Board meets next month and is yet to act on an application for a proposed new Danville casino. Terre Haute got a jump on Danville Friday when the Indiana Gaming Commission unanimously approved a license for Spectacle Jack LLC for a new casino in that city. Construction of the new Terre Haute ‘Rocksino’ could begin as early as September. (The photo is of the proposed new Danville casino.)
Originally the Danville City Council was hoping to have revenue coming in from a new casino by the second half of the fiscal year which began on May 1st. But even if the Illinois Gaming Board approves a license to Haven Gaming, construction of the Danville casino would likely not begin until next year.
Representatives from Haven Gaming said earlier that they are well aware of the efforts to locate a casino in Terre Haute. But they say the Danville casino resort will be a destination location that will attract people from across the country.
Haven Gaming is proposing a 53,500 square foot pre-engineered casino gaming floor that would form the core of the permanent casino and resort. Also included in phase one at the site south of Interstate 74 at Lynch Road is a 200 seat buffet and trendy Chicago style deli.
In its plans announced last summer, Haven Gaming also proposed a 150 room luxury boutique hotel – including 15 suites – a sports betting arena and a convention center along with a corridor of celebrity restaurants and 1500 seat entertainment venue. The estimated cost of phase one alone for the Danville casino is over $118-million dollars.
