Danville Mass Transit has already been awarded $500-thousand dollars in federal CARES funds. Now, Mass Transit Director Lisa Beith hopes to secure another $2-million, 255-thousand dollars in state funds for some local transportation upgrades.
Over $1.8 million dollars would go to purchase four 35-foot transit busses. Another $650-thousand dollars would be earmarked for land acquisition and architectural and engineering for an upgrade of DMT’s administrative and maintenance operations. The other $225,000 would be used to replace underground diesel fuel and storage tanks at the DMT site at 101 North Jackson Street in Danville.
Mass Transit Director Lisa Beith says it is unknown whether Danville will secure any of the $2,225,000 it is requesting in Rebuild Illinois funds. But she adds, hopefully using the $500-thousand dollars in federal CARES funds for the projects will help boost chances for some state funds.
