Danville District 118 Schools which operate on the traditional schedule are now out for the summer. The last day of classes was today (Tuesday)…but something was missing this year. It was the sound of excited students leaving the buildings for the last time and heading home for a fun-filled summer.
Instead, students walked away from their home computer screens where they have been participating in ‘remote learning’. It has been a school year unlike any other for not only the students, but teachers, administrators and parents.
It was March 17th that Governor J. B. Pritzker’s Executive Order took effect closing all public and private schools in the state because of the COVID-19 pandemic. Since then, students have been learning at home. And it now remains to be seen whether remote learning will continue at the start of the 2020-2021 school year. Some Vermilion County school boards, though – including District 118 – are already making plans in case the remote learning has to continue.
Meanwhile, free food will continue to be distributed to District 118 families in need. The food distributions are held on Tuesdays at Danville High School between 10:00 a.m. and noon.
