Danville High School’s ‘Viking Prize Patrol’ was out Thursday delivering some nice prizes to some members of the Class of 2020.
DHS Assistant Principal Amanda Campbell says they were delivering scholarships to the homes of students who normally would have received them at a year-end banquet….
{‘’We’re going around in a van, and we wrote out some big checks for the kids to deliver to them and yard signs for the validictorians. We made a little gift box for them with some candy and balloons — just trying to make it as special as possible since we weren’t able to have that special evening at Turtle Run this year,’’ said Campbell.}
DHS Principal Tracy Cherry notes the students in the Class of 2020 have been through a lot this year with the pandemic….
{‘’You know I can’t even imagine what their feelings and thoughts were in the beginning. But I think we’ve been able to change a lot of those emotions to excitement and anticipation, because we are doing a lot of things for our seniors,’’ said Cherry during an interview with VermilionCountyFirst.com News. ‘’And we’re looking forward to going out today and handing-out checks to those scholarship recipients and just spreading a little joy amidst all this craziness in our world. And recognizing the Class of 2020 because they are special – and we want them to know that.’’

Danville High School’s ‘Viking Prize Patrol’ will be out delivering more scholarships to the homes of some students on Friday (May 22, 2020).
And Friday night at 8 o’clock the lights will be turned on above Ned Whitesell Field at Danville High School for 20 minutes to honor the Class of 2020. Organizers are encouraging others to turn the porch lights on that homes around the area to honor the graduates.
