Although there will be no Memorial Day ceremony at the VA National Cemetery in Danville, events are planned in both Westville and Georgetown on Monday (May 25, 2020).
In Westville, American Legion Post 51 is planning to hold a Memorial Day ceremony starting at 11 a.m. at the memorial at Zamberletti Park. Those who plan to attend are asked to maintain social distancing because of the coronavirus pandemic.
Also in Westville, St. Mary’s Memorial Day Mass at 9:00 a.m. at Sts. Peter and Paul Cemetery will be conducted with COVID-19 safety measures in place. Father Timothy Sauppe’ of St. Mary’s will be blessing 20 gallons of a hand sanitizer solution during the 4:00 p.m. Saturday Vigil Mass (on May 23rd). The hand sanitizer will then be divided into nearly 500 4-ounce bottles. The blessed bottles, in addition to 200 homemade face masks will be available at the Memorial Day Mass at Sts. Peter & Paul Cemetery in Westville at 9:00 a.m. Monday, and then afterward from the St. Mary’s parish office.

And the Georgetown American Legion Post will hold a brief Memorial Day ceremony at 11:00 a.m. Monday at Georgetown Cemetery. Social distancing measures will be in effect due to the pandemic.
