The Danville Area Planning and Zoning Commission is scheduled to consider a request for a Medicinal/Adult Use Cannabis Cultivation Center when it meets on June 4th. Alexander Real Properties, LLC wants to place the business on a nearly 45 acre site at 3700 East Main Street. The site is located directly west of the Danville Correctional Center.
Matt Alexander, a member of the group seeking approval of the petition, says it would be a craft grower small operation. He says an application has already been submitted to the Illinois Department of Agriculture for it. The tentative date for action by the Agriculture Department on the permit request is July 1st. Alexander also notes that it is a very competitive process to get state approval of the permit. Plus the business would need the Danville Planning and Zoning Commission to approve the Special Use Permit that is being requested for the planned construction of a structure of approximately 25,000 square feet.
Alexander explained the public would not be going to the center to purchase cannabis. Instead, it would be a wholesale business where the cannabis would be harvested and transported to licensed dispensaries located only in Illinois.
