Danville Police have announced results of their Memorial Day ‘Click It or Ticket’ enforcement campaign. Police issued 61 citations during the period from May 8th through Memorial Day (May 25th).
Danville Police Commander Terry McCord says 16 motorists were cited for seat belt violations. ‘’Through the Memorial Day crackdown, we helped make our roads safer and spread the word that seat belts save lives,’’ said Commander McCord.
While Illinois’ seat belt compliance rate is 94.6 percent, unbelted occupants still account for over half of those killed in traffic crashes. Police say thousands of lives could be saved each year if every vehicle occupant was properly restrained while traveling.
In addition to the 16 seat-belt citations, Danville Police say 24 people were cited for speeding, 12 motorists were found to be uninsured, 5 were driving after their license had been suspended or revoked, 1 was charged with reckless driving, and one motorist was arrested on drug charges. Danville Police also arrested one fugitive and another wanted on felony charges.
There were no arrests for driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs, and no motorists were cited for failure to use child car seats.
