A Vermilion County Circuit Court Judge has sentenced a former Gilman man to 14 years in prison in connection with a weapons charge. Chase Miles was sentenced by Judge Nancy Fahey in a plea agreement in which Miles pleaded guilty to Unlawful Possession of a Weapon by a Felon. Miles was also given a 5 year prison sentence for Threatening a Public Official, but the sentences are to run concurrently (at the same time).
Vermilion County State’s Attorney Jacqueline Lacy said the evidence would show that Miles became upset and resisted Hoopeston Police when an officer attempted to take him into custody on May 6th of last year. Police found a loaded handgun on Miles after he was tazed in order to make the arrest. Lacy says during the arrest, Miles made numerous threats such as he would kill the officer and his family.
