Some Illinois lawmakers, including State Representative Mike Marron of Fithian, are calling for an audit of the Illinois Department of Employment Security. They want the Auditor General to audit IDES as they demand answers after a May 15th phone call from a constituent revealed a possible data breach on the unemployment application website.
Representative Marron has pointed out problems with citizens trying to apply for unemployment benefits on several occasions lately…
{‘’And if the Governor would just be honest and come to the table and admit that there’s a problem, we would come to the table with solutions and try to help him get through this and get this system functioning in an appropriate manner. But he refuses to do that so we’ve got to take an extraordinary step to try to get this fixed,’’ said Marron.}
Marron says many citizens have been left behind due to failures at IDES….
{‘’Our leaders have a responsibility to see to it that the IDES system works, and that the benefits that were promised to the people who now have no income because of one man’s decisions are available. The resources and manpower exists to fix this problem. Only the desire to get the job done is lacking,’’ added Representative Marron.}
State Representatives Terri Bryant of Murphysboro, Charlie Meier of Okawville, and Brad Stephens of Rosemont joined Representative Marron in a Zoom news conference to outline their concerns.
IDES said earlier that steps have been taken to resolve the problems.
