Danville Mayor Rickey Williams Jr. says the city council could hold a discussion in the future regarding a possible ban on burning yard waste in the city.
Alderman Robert Williams said he received a letter from a resident who suffers from asthma and is concerned for her health.
The mayor says the issue has always been a contentious one.
“There are those (people) who really want to enjoy the wiener roasts in the fire pits outdoors, and there are those who struggle with asthma and allergies, so it’s a tough call.”
Mayor Williams said a discussion on the issue would be held when the council meetings are back in the council’s regular meeting chambers, which could happen as soon as July 1.
