Danville Mayor Rickey Williams Jr. says he is proud of many of the city residents’ efforts during Sunday’s march for racial equality and police accountability.
Williams told alderman during Tuesday night’s city council meeting that he saw people of all different groups participating in the march and rally. He says it has been one of his proudest moments as mayor.

The mayor did say during the two looting incidents Sunday night, the city’s police department was on the scene less than one minute after the incidents began and quickly apprehended the suspects. He also said the city’s public works department cleaned up the scene since one of the businesses did not have enough material to board up windows.
Williams says he thinks the city only has to go up from where it is now.

However, I’m very proud of what you and our team has helped accomplish here at the City of Danville, and I only think we’re going to continue to grow and flourish from here on out.”
Williams also says residents should notify local authorities if they receive word on social media about planned looting events.
