Strong thunderstorms which moved through the area last night have left some downed limbs and standing water on some roadways. Motorists should be alert for areas where water may be standing or running across roads. And, of course, never drive into floodwaters. Turn around, don’t drown. Most flood deaths occur in vehicles.
The National Weather Service at Indianapolis says a Flood Warning for all or parts of Fountain, Parke, Warren, and Vermillion Counties in Indiana will remain in effect until 10:30 a.m. EDT.
Shortly before 4:30 this morning EDT, Doppler radar indicated rain and some thunderstorms were continuing across the warned area. Rain in excess of two and a half inches had already fallen across the area.
Some locations experiencing the flooding this morning include Covington, Veedersburg, Cayuga, West Lebanon, Kingman, Perrysville, Wallace, and Mellott, Indiana.
A Flood Warning which had been issued for Vermilion and Champaign Counties expired at 3:30 this morning. Earlier there were flood warnings across Coles, Douglas and Edgar counties as the storm system moved through the area.
Intense lightning accompanied the storms, and in some areas the lighting left downed limbs and scattered power outages.
