Staind has finally begun creating its first new music in nearly a decade. Frontman Aaron Lewis confirmed during an appearance on Godsmack singer Sully Erna's Hometown Sessions online show that he was working on “new Staind s**t” along with his next solo LP.
Regarding his solo album, Lewis said, “I've got a completely acoustic (album) — no coloration to it. It's not gonna be country, it's not gonna be anything except an acoustic guitar and vocals. That's what's next.”
Lewis released his third full-length country album, State I'm In, in April 2019. Staind played its first full live show in five years last September at Kentucky's Louder Than Life music festival, but has not released a new album since 2011's self-titled seventh studio effort.
With a wealth of rock radio hits in its catalog, we asked Lewis a while back if Staind ever feels pressure to top those when the band writes a new LP: “You know, it just means that when we're deciding what songs and listening to ideas and creating from the very beginning, some ideas just don't make it. We've got to feel like it's good enough to be brought to the table. You know, I don't like filler…you know, 'Yeah, that's good, it's not gonna be a single anyways.' I want every song on the record to be a song that could be worked as a single to some radio format.”
The band was scheduled to support Disturbed on “The Sickness 20th Anniversary Tour” throughout North America this summer. The amphitheater trek has since been postponed to 2021 due to the coronavirus pandemic.
