The remnants of a tropical storm which blew through the area Tuesday left some scattered light damage. Wind gusts up to 53 miles per hour were reported in Champaign County.
The strong winds downed trees, limbs and even power poles in some areas. A light pole at Danville’s Winterview Park was among those downed by the strong winds. And at one point Ameren Illinois reported it had more than 400 customers without power across Vermilion and Champaign counties.
Some funnel clouds were observed in Iroquois county as the system moved through the area Tuesday.
Today a Special Weather Statement remains in effect for counties in central and west-central Indiana….including Fountain, Parke, Vermillion, Warren and Vigo. It says more strong winds are expected today as a cold front moves through central Indiana. Southwest winds of 20 to 25 miles per hour are expected with gusts peaking at 40 to 45 miles per hour. The strong winds will diminish this evening.
