Danville District 118 School Board members may decide this week to change the deadline date for students in certain grade levels to get required physicals and immunizations. Preschool, kindergarten students and those in the 6th, 9th and 12th grades are suppose to have proof of a physical and/or immunizations prior to the first day of school. But due to the COVID-19 Stay at Home Order, many medical providers are just starting to schedule appointments.
For the 2020-2021 school year only, Superintendent Alicia Geddis is recommending District 118 use the State Exclusion Date of October 15th.
Also during Wednesday’s scheduled meeting, Danville District 118 School Board members are expected to consider offering a one-time $5,000 stipend for all newly-hired social workers. Under the proposed Memorandum of Agreement each social worker would be required to commit for 3 years or they would be required to pay back the stipend in full.
Another Memorandum of Agreement with the Danville Education Association spells out certain incentives. Current staff members who recruit applicants holding an Illinois educator’s license to apply and interview for current certified vacancies will receive $250. And if the applicant is hired in a licensed position, the staff member will receive $500.
New teaching staff hired for the 2020-2021 school year will be able to requisition up to $1,000 for supplies or classroom start-up expenses. And current staff who voluntarily transfer to hard-to-fill classroom positions for the new school year will be able to also requisition up to $1,000 for classroom supplies if the school board approves the proposal. The Board meets Wednesday evening.
