The approximately 165 soldiers in an Urbana-based National Guard unit are preparing to deploy to Ukraine. Members of the Illinois Army National Guard’s Headquarters and Headquarters Company have scheduled a June 20th mobilization ceremony.
The Soldiers will be part of Joint Multinational Training Group-Ukraine, and will deploy in support of U.S. European Command operations. The mission is part of ongoing efforts by the U.S. to contribute to Ukraine’s long-term military reform and is provided at the request of the Ukrainian government.
Soldiers who are participating will be in Ukraine strictly for training and advising purposes. They will not be involved in conflict operations.
