The Vermilion County Health Department says the county has suffered its second death from COVID-19. Douglas Toole, Administrator for the Health Department, says a male county resident in his seventies has died from the virus.
Toole says the county stands at 45 positive cases, and 3,864 negative results since the Health Department started tracking the numbers early this year. At this time just over 5-percent of the county’s population has been tested for COVID-19.
The announcement about the second COVID-19 death for Vermilion County came as the Illinois Department of Public Health said 623 new confirmed cases of coronavirus disease (COVID-19) have been confirmed in the state since Monday. State Health officials also announced 72 additional confirmed deaths from the virus statewide.
Currently, Illinois Department of Public Health is reporting a total of 133,639 cases, including 6,398 deaths statewide since the tracking of numbers began. The preliminary seven-day statewide positivity for cases as a percent of total tests from June 9th to June 15th is 3-percent.
