Motorists traveling along Georgetown Road near Ross Lane have noticed heavy earth-moving equipment preparing a site there lately. And many have wondered what will be built in that area (along the east side of Illinois route one.)
Paul Offutt Development will be constructing two buildings there, according to Jude Maxwell, a spokeswoman for Offutt Development. One will be 36,000 square feet and the other 15,000 square feet. Maxwell adds both will be ‘spec buildings’. ‘’We’re building for ourselves, keeping our workers busy,’’ said Maxwell.
The work that is being done will include the construction of a new street…Donna Drive which will run south off Taylor Street. Taylor Street is the road that is just south of the former Gaudio building.

(Crews work to prepare a site near Illinois route one and Ross Lane for development.)
Offutt Development will be trying to find tenants for both buildings, just as it is currently searching for new occupants for a spec building the company constructed just down the street. It is where a gas station once stood in the 1800 block of Georgetown Road.
And Maxwell says Offutt is also in discussions with a possible new occupant for the former Gaudio building on Georgetown Road. It is the Tilton building where some recent drive-through food distributions have been held. Maxwell says it will probably be fall, though, before anything new is heard about that prospect.
‘’We’re putting our money into Tilton,’’ said Offutt. ‘’They are so much easier to deal with than Danville. They have a real eye on progress,’’ he says.
Danville Mayor Rickey Williams Jr. responded to the planned development. ”I congratulate Mayor Phillips and the Tilton Trustees on the additional development happening in their village. Although as mayors, we all love having new things in our own cities, what’s good for one of us is good for all,” said Williams. ”Every business that locates in Vermilion County is one that didn’t locate elsewhere.”
Offutt Development was the company which worked on the restoration of the Fischer Theater in Danville. It built the Gaudio building and Autumn Fields adult living facility in Tilton, too. And Offutt’s company will be building another adult living facility in Covington, Indiana.
