A former Danville man has been sentenced to 24 years in prison after pleading guilty to First Degree Murder in the death of a local businessman. Twenty-one year old Christopher Condon was sentenced by Circuit Judge Nancy Fahey after Condon pleaded guilty to murdering Jay Hein.
Hein was the operator of the 610 Tap. During Friday’s hearing the Court heard evidence establishing that on February 14, 2018, Danville Firefighters found Hein deceased in his home on Bayview Drive after a neighbor reported seeing smoke coming from the house.
Through the course of the investigation by Danville Police and Illinois State Police it was discovered through video evidence that Hein left the 610 Tap around 4:00 a.m. with the defendant on February 14, 2018. Vermilion County State’s Attorney Jacqueline Lacy says from there, the evidence revealed the defendant and Jay Hein went to Hein’s home where an argument developed between the men.
Condon was arrested and while speaking to police admitted to being with Hein and stabbing Hein at least once, according to Lacy. A forensic pathologist found that Hein died from multiple stab wounds.
During Friday’s sentencing hearing, State’s Attorney Lacy presented victim impact statements from John Hein and Michelle, both describing Jay Hein’s love for his family and the community.
