Danville Area Community College is expected to finish the 2021 fiscal year with a balanced budget if federal coronavirus money is included in its figures.
Chief Financial Officer Tammy Betancourt told the college’s trustees during a study session Thursday afternoon that DACC has received a little less than $1 million in CARES Act funding–$471,000 designated for students and $518,000 for the institution.
Betancourt said the college would have a $450,000 deficit if no CARES Act funding is included in its budgeted numbers, which will be tentatively released in August.
The trustees discussed online credit hours and having students from four-year colleges take courses at DACC while their universities have canceled classes. President Stephen Nacco said the college’s bonus credit program gets students closer to graduation while also having credits that will transfer to other institutions.
Nacco explained how having hybrid courses will work well for students instead of strictly online learning…
“You’re here this week, next week you’re online. It’s better than fully online, where you’re on your own, and then you never go near your computer.”
He also said thanked the board for purchasing unlimited licensing agreements with an online learning platform, saying it has helped the college get ahead in the pandemic.
