With the Illinois High School Association reversing its reopening guidelines, several people are now wondering if football will happen this fall.
Danville High School Athletic Director Mark Bacys says he believes high school football will happen during the school year, but when it will happen is not known.
Bacys says the public should know by July 29th whether fall sports will take place as usual. He says the first day of the fall sports season is August 10.
He said the first step he thinks the IHSA will take is to move the start of the fall sports calendar back and to shorten the season. If fall sports cannot happen, then he says the sports will likely be moved to a different time, similar to the junior college plan.
“Winter sports as they are, (will) probably start in January, take fall sports and move them to the spring and take spring sports and move them into the summer months, and shorten all three seasons to not try to blend into the summer.”
Bacys said his goal is for the Danville Vikings to be able to play all of their seasons this year, regardless of when they occur, and he says that is the IHSA’s goal for this year as well.
