Danville District 118 school board members rejected summer conditioning proposals for the Danville High School marching band and show choir by a 4-3 vote Wednesday night.
DHS Band Director Ryan Krapf told board members that the proposal would prohibit any physical contact among marching band members, and students would have to wear face masks when they would not be playing.
The proposed band schedule would have seen the marching band be split into two groups, with one group practicing for three hours in the afternoon and the other group for three hours in the early evenings.
Krapf said the band department would provide synthetic reeds and other personal equipment if the proposal moved forward. No uniforms would be used since they would have to be washed each time.
The show choir proposal would have seen students be socially distanced and have no physical contact or singing.
Board vice president Randal Ashton voted in favor of the proposal. He said band camps were some of his favorite memories growing up.
Superintendent Alicia Geddis said she is still open to the idea of band conditioning.
Dobbles said Krapf could revise his proposal and present it to the board at its next meeting, which is set for Wednesday, August 5th.
